History of translation: Marriage contract

There were prescribed all the possible disputed cases in the marriage contract concerning ownership of real and personal property acquired during marriage.

Cases of acquisition of shares and security papers, jewellery, objects of art and antiques were considered in particular. Often such property shall be owned by the partner at whose expense this property was acquired. Jewellery shall be owned by the party that used it in case of marriage dissolution. Wedding presents shall be parceled depending on whose (husband’s or wife’s) relatives or friends had given such presents.

Besides marriage contracts, in other words agreements of persons, entering into marriage and prescribing the proprietary rights and duties within marriage and/or in case of its dissolution, we often translate other types of contracts: principal and preliminary, defined and non-defined, real and executor, simple and complex, non-gratuitous and gratuitous, bilateral and multilateral, unilateral and public.
