A boom on Russian language |

 The Japanese are expressing much interest in everything Russian in lieu of the Sochi Olympics: language, cuisine, flag, nested dolls and other Russian symbols – all that attracts Japan’s residents along with the Olympic symbols. Depictions of the Russian flag, Olympic symbols, Russian maps, nested dolls can be seen all over Japan these days. Anchors of television shows on the largest Japanese channels greet viewers and say goodbye solely in Russian – “dobroe utro” and “do svidaniya”. Some traditional Russian dishes are now in restaurants, for example, borscht, which is described not as a soup, but as “vegetables, stewed with meat”.
It is curious that the Olympics awakened this interest for Russian culture not just in the Japanese, but also in Europeans. A survey conducted by dpa agency shows that two out of five Germans have never tried Russian food and 60% of them want to try borscht with pelmeni in order to fill that gap.
