That's why recently a new Bill for the Use of Bulgarian Language has been tabled in Bulgaria.
The Bill gives the main features of the directives for mandatory use of literary language and the fines to be imposed on law breakers. It further bans the use of any foreign language and even dialects of Bulgarian at public events.
But Bulgarian mass media speak ironically of another "uniquely ludicrous" law. They suggest introducing "better school curriculum and books; better funding; better trained and paid teachers; setting examples in mass media of people with real contributions to Bulgarian language and culture; promoting Bulgarian classics, plays, music" instead of a soulless law.
