International English learning center EF Education First has published the new world ranking of countries accroding to their level of English proficiency (EF English Proficiency Index 2015).
Top 10 most English proficient countries are as follows:
01 Sweden
02 Netherlands
03 Denmark
04 Norway
05 Finland
06 Slovenia
07 Estonia
08 Luxembourg
09 Poland
10 Austria
Russia is 39th in the ranking, thus retaining the status of a country with low English proficiency. Within Russia English is most spoken in Moscow, Novosibirsk, Saint Petersburg and Vladivostok.
In total, examination results of 910 000 people from 70 countries were analyzed, which resulted in a series of interesting observations:
better English means higher income and higher quality of life;
women speak English better than men;
the age group of 18-20 demonstrated the highest English proficiency.
