According to a rating by the international educational center Education First, Sweden is in first place in the world by level of English language knowledge. A total of 60 countries were evaluated in the study, for which English is not a native language.
The second and third places in the
rating are occupied by
Norway and the Netherlands. Top 10 also include Estonia, Denmark, Austria, Finland, Poland, Hungary and Slovenia. The lowest
level of knowledge of English was demonstrated by Arabic countries – Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Russia was in 31st place in this rating and
Ukraine – in 27th.
Education First experts note that of the 15 countries that took leading positions in the rating, seven are small European nations, which because of their small size, are forced to maintain openness on the international arena. On the whole, Europeans know English better than people from Asia and America.
