As you can guess, our Chinese friends are the champions of such troubles. It may be easy to understand a specific Chinese language vocabulary when we deal with household utensils. Although, when we speak about rolling mills or rock drills, i.e. serious equipment, we face a completely different level of difficulties. Fortunately, today the Chinese don’t translate such documents into Russian on their own but they attach the documents in English to their products. We call this language “the Chinese English”.
Moreover, the Chinese dialects are so numerous that some of them: Shanghainese, Guangdongese (Cantonese) – drastically differ from the Northern dialects.
There are lots of problems with other languages besides Chinese. The customers give us texts for translation and editing which are the results of machine translation. As a rule, in such a case a naive customer is going to save some money on translation. Sometimes the text is grammatically correct but its content is rather poor.
The translation agency activity is like a screen reflecting the citizens’ business activity (at least the one related to international communication). Therefore, some stupid mistakes are unavoidable. The thing that disturbs us is that the number of such mistakes has been growing for the last few years. However, the things like that sometimes entertain and distract us from our daily routine related to sprayers, spindles, distributors and the like vocabulary.
