National dishes are translated into English in Belarus |

 On the threshold of the 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship, the Ministry of Trade of Belarus published recommendations how to translate the names of dishes of Belarusian cuisine into English. The translation made by professional translators was already adopted and added in the menu of some eating facilities. The English translation of names of dishes of Belarusian cuisine was made to increase the recognition of dishes among foreigners. Some eating facilities have already brought their menus into accord with requirements to the 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship, having placed the Belarusian, Russian and English versions of dish names.
As for dishes, that have no analogues abroad, all experts recommended to make a transcription in Latin and an English translation. For example, «похлебка грибная» will be written down in the menu of Belarusian restaurants as «pohlebka with mushrooms (vegetable broth)». Other national Belarusian dish «крупеня» will be translated as «krupnik (cereal soup broth cooked with meat and potatoes)», and well-known «драники с грибами» is translated into English as «draniki (potato pancakes) with mushrooms».
